Dr. Robert W. Hartwell, 71, of Richmond, passed away Friday, February 15, 2008. Dr. Hartwell was born on October 21, 1936, in Dayton, Ohio to the late Lillian Myrtle Steck Hartwell and William Wallace Hartwell. In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberle and Christopher Prunty of Windermere, Florida; his grandson, Christopher William Prunty; and many beloved friends and former students. He was a retired director of bands at Eastern Kentucky University and the Stephen Collins Foster Music Camp, having shared his love of music with students in Kentucky for more than 30 years. Prior to joining the faculty of EKU, he was a band director for Worthington, Ohio public schools. Throughout his career, he promoted music education through involvement in numerous professional organizations, particularly the Kentucky Music Educator¹s Association, for which he served as executive director for three years. Dr. Hartwell was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church.
