Charles “Chuck” Keith, age 72, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2025. Born on July 25, 1952, in Columbus, Ohio, Chuck was the son of Wayne and Glenna Keith. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1970 before earning a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio University in 1974, a Master’s in Construction Management from The Ohio State University in 1978, and a law degree from Capital University in 1980. Chuck began his career with Great Lakes Construction in 1974, later joining Geupel Construction Company in 1976, where he remained until 1995. That year, he purchased Hi-Way Paving, transforming it from a subcontractor into a full-service general contractor. Under his leadership, the company expanded its reach, securing major contracts with the Department of Defense and the Federal Aviation Administration in the 2000s. Chuck’s love story with Sue began when they were teenagers in high school in 1967 and lasted more than 50 years. They married on April 12, 1975, and raised two sons –Dustin and Josh. Chuck’s influence on his sons was significant; his love of music inspired Dustin to take up the saxophone and motivated Josh to pursue audio engineering and music production. Alongside Sue, Chuck was not just a parent but a true partner in their lives, proudly sharing in their passions. A longtime and loyal Ohio State Buckeyes fan, Chuck was a fixture at games and tailgates. In 1995, he purchased and renovated a 70s-era school bus, which became a game-day tradition at Ohio Stadium. His love for sports extended beyond football – he was also a longtime Columbus Blue Jackets season ticket holder and an aviation enthusiast who loved to travel, especially to Florida and Hilton Head Island. Beyond his career, Chuck was passionate about education. From 1980 to 2019, he taught Construction Contracts and Claims, a senior-level elective at The Ohio State University’s College of Civil Engineering. Beginning in 2012, he co-taught the course with his son, Dustin, now the CEO of Hi-Way Paving. He was an avid golfer, a skilled grill master, and took great pride in gardening, especially growing tomatoes and garlic. He was deeply social and with Sue, loved bringing people together, often hosting reunions, pig roasts, and even the annual OSU KL Row Sousaphone Band Member Dinner, among many gatherings at their home. Known for his generosity, both in friendship and in giving, he cherished his role as a devoted husband, father, and family man. He also treasured time at a family cabin in MacArthur, Ohio, hand built by his father. The cabin, a special place for the Keith family for more than 50 years and counting. Chuck is survived by his wife, Sue; sons Dustin (Muriel) and Josh (Samantha); siblings Jan McDaniel, Michael (Barbara) Keith, and Donna (Kevin) Cossin; grandchildren Aiden and Amelia Keith; nieces Jenny (RJ) Gregor and Michelle Keith Nguyen; nephews David Keith, Jason (Kim) Keith, C.W. (Erika) Morris, Micah (Amy) Morris, Matt (Dannyle) Cossin, and countless family and friends.
