Michael Anthony Mayer, born on February 18, 1961, and passed away on February 22, 2025, lived a life full of adventure and joy. Born to Frank and Mary Mayer, Mike was a man who embraced life with open arms and a big heart. Mike is survived by his beloved wife and travel partner, Marlee Mayer, with whom he shared countless adventures both locally and internationally. His children, Kacy and Ryne Mayer, were two of the best things that happened in his life. He also cherished family time with his stepchildren Mandy (Roger) Abernathy, Megan Davis, Molly Davis, Mike O’Connell (Kelly), and his six grandchildren. Mike had a special bond with his brothers, Craig (Kathy) Mayer and Kevin (Winova) Mayer, with whom he loved to prank, share laughs and talk sports. His nieces and nephews, Kaitlin (Chris) Gibbs, Zachary Mayer, Parker, Asara, and Austin Mayer, will always remember his playful spirit. Throughout his life, Mike lived in 17 different states, graduated from Worthington High School in Ohio in 1979, and attended Ohio State University to study architecture. His career journey led him to work at Schooley Caldwell, Peabody Noise Control, later Kinetics Noise Control, and eventually start his own company, Mayer Acoustics, which became a premier sound solution company across Ohio and the nation. He enjoyed solving complex noise issues from jet engine manufacturers to auditoriums to state- of- the -art noise solutions for pediatric psychiatric wards. Mike's love for travel and adventure was unmatched. A few of his favorites include his first scuba dive in Cozumel, backpacking in the Tetons with high school friends, trips to Panama where he had hoped to live one day, and his final trip to Italy and Greece. He loved being near water, whether it was his pool in North Carolina, the ocean, or his saltwater fish tanks at home. Mike lived life with great passion. Anyone who knew him also knew that one of his greatest passions was collecting, especially baseball cards, and he proudly owned one of the largest collections in the United States. He also loved his Bronco, one of the 38 cars he owned in his lifetime, and enjoyed driving it on the beach in search of wild horses. His fandom for the Chicago Cubs, Detroit Lions, and Ohio State Buckeyes football team was legendary. It was the Buckeyes drive and win for the National Championship that filled his last months with such joy. Mike will be greatly missed by all who loved him. The hope is that he is having great adventures free of the burden of cancer wherever he is.
