Marjorie Starr, 92, of Gold Canyon, Arizona, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2003. She was born to parents Ivan and Helen Carrico on August 3, 1931 in Charleston, West Virginia. Growing up, she lived in several cities, including Chicago, Dallas, and Columbus, due to her father's work with the U.S. Treasury. She graduated from Worthington High School in 1950, and shortly thereafter met her Marine, Harry Starr. Theirs was a long-distance courtship as he wrote her from Korea where he was serving in combat. They were married in 1953, honeymooning at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and eventually settled in Blacklick, Ohio where, by end of the 1950's, they had brought three children into the world. She made homemaking and raising her family her priority. Marjorie was a cheerful, easy-going, thoughtful, wise, and generous woman, and she will be remembered as a loving and encouraging daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor, and friend. Her cooking and baking abilities especially delighted and impressed many. As Grammy, she was a good listener and always there with words of wisdom and advice for her grandchildren. Marjorie was multi-dimensional with many interests and talents. She was an active charter member of the Stoneybrook United Methodist Church in Gahanna, Ohio and rolled strikes left-handed as a member of the inaugural church women's bowling team. She was a member of the Lincoln Elementary PTA and served as room mother for each of her three children. She was a prominent member of the Scioto Downs Model T Club where she and Harry appeared in many parades across the tri-state area. Marjorie was also a keen businesswoman. She became a volunteer at Mt. Carmel East Hospital where her attention to detail led to her being hired in Medical Records where she worked until retirement. She and Harry also created a name for themselves in the Central Ohio antique world as they sought out, repaired and refinished, and sold antiques, specializing in rolltop desks, ice boxes, and cash registers, to a clientele that appreciated their business acumen, professionalism, and finished products. When it was time to retire in 1991, the Starrs moved to Arizona, where Margie set about befriending her neighbors and, for good measure, took up golf. Marjorie is survived by her sister, Margaret Ann Winfough of Gold Canyon, brother Donald (Prudence) Carrico of Hawaii, her daughter, Margie Ann (Scott) Lawrence, of Plano, Texas and her son Harry Brent (Jean) Starr of Tempe, Arizona; four loving grandchildren, James Bradley, Megan Starr, and Molly Ann Lawrence, and Mercedes Starr, and nephews Brian (Mary) Carrico and Alan (Sarah) Carrico and their children Parker and Shelby; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law William & Mamie Chesser. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Mack Starr and eldest son Bradley Mack Starr, parents Ivan and Helen Carrico, brother Robert Carrico, in-laws Wellington and Mary Starr, and in-law siblings Kelly and Donna Starr and Morris and Mary Cahill.
