Robert Michael "Mike" Russell, 76 of Delaware, Ohio, passed peacefully, early Thursday morning, September 26, 2024 at his residence, after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Born June 11, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio, the only son to the late Robert & Eileen June (Cherrington) Russell. Mike graduated from Thomas Worthington High School in 1966. After high school, he studied Biology at Ohio University and furthered his studies at UCLA becoming a Certified Prosthetist Orthotist. His career was committed to the well-being of his patients and he championed progress and innovation in orthotics and prosthetics and was a President of The American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics. While at Ohio University, Mike served in the Ohio National Guard. He was honorably discharged for his service. After graduating college, Mike met the love of his life, Judy Frysinger. They were married on September 14, 1974. Judy is lovingly supported by their three daughters and family: Amanda Butler and her husband, DJ, along with their daughters Kate and Khloe. Katrina Kaupp and her husband, Nick, along with their sons Trey and Brady, their youngest daughter Jackie Russell and his sister Susan Ray and her husband, Larry, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mike enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, or hiking. Mike and Judy enjoyed many outdoor adventures before starting a family. In 2019 they traveled to Alaska and Mike returned to Alaska in 2021 where he and his best friend hiked and camped the Alaskan Highway. In 2023 while battling lung fibrosis Mike was able to enjoy one last hunting trip with lifelong friends. He was an active gardener and participated in the Farmers Market in Downtown Delaware for several years, selling his organic produce. Mike also enjoyed woodworking, visiting his grandchildren and watching their sporting events and art shows. Mike and Judy were members of the William Street United Methodist in Delaware for 10 years where Mike was a Trustee. He will be remembered as a dedicated, loving, and faithful husband, father, grandfather and brother with an extraordinary ability to bring joy and laughter to those around him.
