Katherine Ann (Kitty) Griggs Hoessly passed away peacefully Saturday, May 18, 2024 at age 101. She was born in Aurora, Illinois, on February 22, 1923, to E. Clinton Griggs and Madeleine Bertrand Griggs. She was the oldest of four children, the others being Norman, Georgie, and Clint, all of whom predeceased her. Her father's job involved a number of moves for the family, but they were in Worthington in time for Kitty to graduate from Worthington High School, begin classes at Ohio State, and meet her future husband, George Harrison Hoessly. They met at Glengarry Pool, where he asked a friend to ask Kitty if he could share her blanket. Then he went home and told his mother that he had met the girl he was going to marry! After an interlude during which George entered the service and Kitty's family moved to Pittsburgh, Kansas, they were married there on June 30, 1943. They were the parents of three children, Cynthia (Michael) Tillis, Katherine (Michael) Cullinan, and George/Bud (Kim). Kitty was very involved in her Catholic Faith, and was a founding member of both St. Michael's and St. Timothy's parishes. She was President of the Altar Society at St. Michael's, which was her church for many years while they lived in Colonial Hills. When they moved to St. Timothy, she was president of the Women's club, member of the Bible Study, and prayer line. She was a long-time member of Kappa Delta and CCL. During their golden years George and Kitty enjoyed racing Malibu race cars for the Barber Rosalea Senior Center under the monikers Slo Geo and Kwik Kit. She read voraciously, sometimes two or three books at a time, from murder mysteries to St. Augustine, to algebra books - which she was determined to understand before she died. But more than books, she loved chocolate! Her children thought she was beautiful and funny and smart ... and appreciated her laughing when THEY were trying to be funny! She is survived by her children, four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Dave), Kate, Sean, Chris, seven great grandchildren, Evan, Mica, Branden, Josh, Kaylinn, Ryan, and Kiersten, and many other beloved relatives. She will be greatly missed.
