Richard Lewis "Dick" Hoffman, age 76, a military and Hilltop historian, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Doctor's Hospital West. Richard was born to the late Arthur and Helen Hoffman of Somerville, Massachusetts, grew up in Albion, Maine and later graduated from Worthington High School. Dick was a proud Veteran of The United States Army where he was a retired Lieutenant Colonel. He enlisted on November 17, 1966, was in active duty from 1967-1972, serving in Vietnam in 1969-70 and at Fort Knox from 1970-72 and the Army Reserves from 1972-1996. Dick was with the 83rd ARCOM from 1972-78, Commander of the 367th Public Affairs Detachment from 1979-1983, Commander of the 326th Military History Detachment from 1984-1987 and the 2078th USAR School from 1987-1996. His many military achievements and awards include the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal and The Vietnamese Campaign Medal. He retired from The United States Postal Service (USPS) and from the Army Reserves with 30 years active and reserve duty. He has been involved in historical presentations and writings. Among his involvements are being a Docent for the National Veterans Memorial and Museum, a board member and past President of The Hilltop Historical Society, Hilltop Kiwanis, Crossroads United Methodist Church, Life Member Reservists Organization of America, Life Member VFW Westway Post #3441, American Legion #532, Camp Knox Lodge #919, F&AM, 4th Infantry Division, with which he served in Vietnam and the USO. Preceded in death by, parents, son, Brice Hoffman, brother, John "Jack" Hoffman. Survived by, wife of 56 years, Linda, sons, Duane (Lori) Hoffman, Matthew (Deanna) Hoffman and Philip (Alicia) Hoffman, grandchildren, Olivia, Grace, Miles, Logan, Coltrane and Nayanna, brother, Thomas Hoffman, numerous other family and friends.
